Justifying security to Seattlites

Though we have a wide range of personal political views, many of us as security professionals in the Seattle area have found it a challenge to explain to some liberals the importance of security, since security is for the most part a moderate-conservative concept (politically speaking.)

A friend of mine from school (Lance Miller) is a sort of technocrat who writes a bit on CPTED-related issues, and experiments with developing crime-documentation software. He has written his manifesto on the implication the new security situation emerging in our society, and it contains good ideas about the importance of security to liberals, though his conclusion is extremely controversial.
